Gates

How a project moves from one phase to the next, and why a gate can refuse to pass.

A gate is the check between two phases of a project. Each gate has criteria. Blocking criteria must be met before the gate passes; the others are recorded but do not stop it.

Pass a gate

  1. Open the project and choose Gates.
  2. Review each criterion of the next gate. Attach evidence where a criterion asks for it.
  3. When every blocking criterion is met, choose Pass gate and give a reason.

When a gate is refused

If a blocking criterion is still open, Atlas refuses the gate and names the criterion. Attach the missing evidence or resolve the criterion, then try again. Every pass is logged with who passed it, when and why.

Objectives and measurement

Gate 1 holds the project's Objectives: one target per figure, such as at least 5,000 attendees or at most 2 t of waste. Set them while gate 1 is open, then record them as gate 1 evidence. Once gate 1 passes, only a gate approver can change them, and every change is logged.

Gate 8 holds the Measurement: record waste, energy, water, transport, attendance, online audience and sentiment figures, and add each piece of earned media coverage with its link. Coverage counts and reach come from the coverage you add. A figure nobody measured shows as Unmeasured, never as zero. To change a figure, choose Correct and give a reason; the correction log keeps the figure before and after.
