XOS glossary

The terms Atlas uses, in plain words. Canon terms show their full definition when you hover over or focus them.

  • Assertion rank: how strongly a canon value is backed, from a ratified standard down to an unverified claim.
  • Baseline: a frozen copy of a schedule, used to measure slips.
  • Canon: the shared XOS reference of phases, gates, record kinds, roles and other standard values.
  • Engagement: the working relationship between your organization and an outside person or company.
  • Gate: the check between two phases of a project; blocking criteria must be met to pass.
  • Peek: the side panel that opens a record without leaving the list.
  • Phase: a stage in a project's life, from concept to close.
  • Provenance: where a value came from and how far it can be trusted.
  • Record: any tracked item in a project, such as a task, decision or deliverable, with a kind and a state.
  • Record kind: the type of a record, which decides its fields and states.
  • Refusal: when Atlas declines an action because a rule forbids it. The message names the rule and how to proceed.
  • Unpriced: a cost with no price yet. It is never treated as zero, and totals show how many are unpriced.
  • URID: the unique reference of a canon element, such as a catalog item.
